|Staples Inc. Appoints Tom Nutile Vice President of Public Relations|
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 5, 2000--Staples Inc., the office supplies and services retailer, today announced the appointment of Tom Nutile to vice president of public relations. With more than 20 years of experience in corporate communications and journalism, including eight years as a retail business reporter, Nutile will oversee the company's public relations efforts, from strategy to implementation.

Nutile will report directly to Stemberg.

Nutile brings award-winning communications experience to Staples Inc. Most recently, Nutile served as director of corporate communications for Cahners Business Information, where he supervised the public relations effort to highlight the company's transition from a traditional trade magazine publisher to an Internet-based information provider. Nutile also directed the company's move to put its daily internal communications online. Prior to his position with Cahners, Nutile was a media spokesperson for Liberty Financial Companies.
Before embarking on a career in public relations, Nutile was a journalist at several daily newspapers. As a financial reporter for the Boston Herald, he wrote the "On State Street" column and covered the retail industry. He also wrote for The St. Petersburg Times and ran a news bureau for The Courier News, a Gannett daily newspaper in New Jersey.
A resident of Natick and a three-time Bulldog National public relations award winner, Nutile holds a bachelor's degree in English from Oberlin College. He was raised in Needham.
