|Staples.com Enhances Management Team|
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 11, 2000--Staples.com today announced enhancements to its management team with three seasoned Staples executives assuming key roles for Staples.com; Kevin Dempsey has been named vice president of international development, Mike DeSanto vice president of merchandising and Connie Seatter director of human resources.

Kevin Dempsey will drive Staples.com's international e-commerce initiatives and was instrumental in the launch of the company's Web sites for Canada. He brings a breadth of merchandising experience to continue expanding Staples.com's international presence, having held a variety of domestic and international merchandising roles with Staples. As vice president of international merchandising for Staples International, he created the pan-European buying operation, significantly reducing Staples' cost-of-goods while better leveraging global buying strategies. Prior to that, Kevin was vice president of import buying and product development, and helped launch Staples' Canadian operation, Business Depot Canada. Before joining Staples Inc., he worked in merchandising for Canada's largest home improvement retailer. Kevin is a graduate of The University of Western Ontario, Canada and resides in Boston, Mass.
With more than 12 years of merchandising and management experience at the company, Mike DeSanto will focus on merchandising strategy, margin management and product promotion initiatives to drive sales on Staples.com. He has served in a variety of marketing, merchandising and human resources positions for Staples, Inc. In 1995, Mike served as director of promotional sales - a $250 million plus program spanning 500 to 600 stores and managed Staples's circular merchandising programs. In late 1998, he became vice president of merchandising for Staples Direct, the company's catalog operation. A resident of Wellesley, Mass., Mike earned his undergraduate degree at Mattatuck College in Waterbury, CT.
Connie Seatter brings over a decade of high technology human resources and management experience to lead Staples.com's newly established human resources function. Since 1993, she was responsible for various human resources initiatives at Staples with a focus on technical staff recruiting and support. Prior to Staples, she was with Dun and Bradstreet Software providing human resources technical support to its domestic and international businesses. Connie holds a B.S. in industrial and organizational psychology at Worcester State College and resides in Westboro, Mass.
