|Spreading the Cheer - Staples Survey Reveals Office Holiday Trends|

From festive holiday parties to sweet seasonal treats, offices nationwide celebrate the holidays in a variety of ways. Using the company's @StaplesTweets Twitter handle, Staples (NASDAQ: SPLS) conducted a recent series of surveys that revealed some interesting findings about how people spread the holiday cheer from nine to five.
Seasonal Parties and Office Etiquette
With more than 60 percent of respondents saying their offices decorate for the holidays, it's apparent that many businesses are embracing the holiday spirit this year. Although the holidays are a time to celebrate, not every office has a seasonal party. Of those surveyed, only 38 percent said their company will host a 2010 holiday party, up three percent from 2009 when 35 percent said their company still had a holiday party despite tougher economic times. Of the 35 percent from 2009 who still had a holiday party, 15 percent said it was scaled down from years past.
Known for her tasty treats and cookies, Mrs. Fields(R), a leader in the premium snack food industry, is also an etiquette guru. The Mrs. Fields Secrets blog offers advice to small businesses and consumers alike on how to handle the season's festivities. "To keep yourself in good graces with your boss and peers, you should attend your office's holiday party as it's the perfect time to build camaraderie," said Jennifer Jobin, vice president, Mrs. Fields. "And the holidays of course are a time to reach out to your co-workers and clients. Seasonal treats make a great gift and are a nice way to show you're thinking of them or to say thanks. Your thoughtfulness will go a long way. Just be sure to stay within your budget."
According to survey respondents, many of their employers (36 percent) do not send holiday gifts to clients. For those that do, the most popular items were holiday greeting cards (34 percent) or gift baskets and treats to share (31 percent).
Sweet Treats and Holiday Wishes
With the holidays come seasonal treats, but according to the survey, what employees crave can greatly vary. When asked what employees hope to find in their office kitchenettes this holiday season, the survey found that 42 percent hope to find seasonal treats like peppermint bark and cookies while 22 percent would rather see something healthier, like a basket of fruit.
