FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2001--Staples, Inc., today announced the appointment of Shira D. Goodman as executive vice president of marketing. Goodman will report to Ronald L. Sargent, president and COO of Staples, and serve on the company's senior management team. We're thrilled to now have Shira direct our overall marketing programs and help continue our industry-leading position across North America and Europe."
In her new position, Goodman will be responsible for the strategic, operational and financial aspects of Staples' marketing programs across its retail, catalog, contract and Internet businesses. Previously, as senior vice president of Staples Direct, she grew that operation more than 60 percent to an $850 million North American business, with specific focus on marketing, merchandising and customer service. Goodman also has held positions as vice president of marketing for Staples National Advantage and director of marketing for Staples Direct.
Prior to Staples, Goodman was a manager at Bain and Co., where she helped develop the strategy to launch Staples' catalog business in 1989.
