Staples and Detroit Red Wings Star Center Steve Yzerman Plan Special
DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 1999--A professional ice rink may not seem like the traditional office environment -- it's cold and slippery, you get shoved, kicked and bruised as part of the normal working day. Possibly the only business machine around is the trusty Zamboni. But for a hockey star like Steve Yzerman, the ice is the office where he does his best work.

In celebration of greater Detroit's hardworking businesspeople, who are both loyal Yzerman fans and Staples business customers, Staples is partnering with Detroit Red Wings Center and Captain Steve Yzerman in a unique promotion called "Take Your Office to Steve's Office." Staples and Yzerman are offering the chance for a Detroit area businesses and its employees to win a visit from Yzerman at their office, and in turn will see Yzerman at "work" at his office on the ice at a Red Wings game in March!

Through March 1, 1999, members of the public can come in to any of the 14 Southeastern Michigan Staples superstores and enter the contest simply by filling out a specially-marked entry form at the Steve Yzerman display located at the front of the store. This ultimate employee incentive includes a VIP trip for up to 20 office employees to attend a regular season Detroit Red Wings game, dine and view the game from a luxury suite and enjoy limousine service to and from the game.

Yzerman will personally present the game tickets when he visits the office which submitted the winning entry. Yzerman also will meet the employees, sign autographs and hand out sports merchandise.

Yzerman, a perennial NHL All-Star, is first on the Red Wings in points and assists this season, and currently ranks 10th on the NHL all-time scoring list. Yzerman is the longest serving captain in term of games in NHL history.

Staples is an active participant in both the business and education community in Southeast Michigan. Last October, Staples awarded Port Huron Northern High School with a $5,000 Staples gift certificate and a visit from Bobby Ross, Detroit Lions head coach, as winners in the 1998 Staples Coach of the Week program.
