|Staples Inc. Names Robert J. Moore Executive Vice President of Marketing|
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1999--Staples Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) today announced it named Robert J. Moore executive vice president of marketing, succeeding Jeanne B. Lewis who recently was named president of Staples.com. Moore will report to Ronald L. Sargent, president of Staples Inc., and serve on the company's senior management team.

"Bob will play a key leadership role in positioning Staples as the industry leader to capitalize on the office supplies market across North America and Europe. In his new position, Moore will be responsible for the strategic, operational and financial aspects of Staples' marketing programs, including television, print and radio advertising, direct mail and special programs. He also will support the marketing efforts of the retail, catalog, contract and Internet businesses in order to maximize advertising and marketing synergies.
Moore has 15 years of experience in leading marketing and business initiatives for Fortune 500 companies. Most recently, he was with Bausch & Lomb, Inc., of Rochester, N.Y., where he served as global vice president of business strategy and marketing for the company's sunglasses division, president of U.S. Health Care and vice president of marketing for U.S. Lens Care. At Bausch & Lomb, Moore was instrumental in building strong brand recognition for Ray-Ban Sunglasses, Renu contact lens solution and Curel hand and body lotion. Prior to that, Moore was a brand manager for Folgers Coffee at Procter & Gamble.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Moore earned a master's in business administration from Harvard University. He currently resides in Victor, N.Y., and will be relocating to the Greater Boston area in the near future.
