|Staples, Inc. Announces the Appointment of David Crosier as Executive Vice President, Supply Chain Management|
Realty and Development Group Appointments and Promotions Also Announced
WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1998-- Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS)today announced that it has appointed David Crosier to the position of executive vice president, Supply Chain Management, effective June 1. Mr. Crosier will report to Ron Sargent, president, North American Operations.
Mr. Crosier will be responsible for leading the supply chain and logistics strategy for Staples' Retail, International and Staples Contract and Commercial divisions. His work will be integral in helping Staples achieve some of its key business objectives including faster, more efficient supply service, thus lowering costs and improving customer satisfaction.
In his most recent position, Mr. Crosier was vice president, Logistics for A.W. Chesterton Co. in Stoneham, Mass. During his tenure, he dramatically improved delivery performance to customers. Prior to that position, Mr. Crosier spent 21 years at Digital Equipment Corporation [NYSE:DEC],where he re-engineered their worldwide product development and logistics processes.
Mr. Crosier is a graduate of Western New England College and American International College. He resides with his family in Westborough, Mass.
In addition to the appointment of Mr. Crosier, Staples, Inc. announces three new appointments and promotions in the Realty and Development Group, reporting to Joseph S. Vassalluzzo, president of Staples Realty and Development:
Larry R. Belcaster will be joining Staples, Inc. as senior vice president, Engineering, Construction and Support Services. In this role, Mr. Belcaster will be responsible for the design, architecture and construction of new store facilities and distribution centers, fixtures and equipment procurement, facilities management and corporate services. Formerly, Mr. Belcaster was president, Capitol Construction Group, a Chicago-based commercial general contractor. Prior to that, Mr. Belcaster was vice president, Engineering and Construction for American Stores Company [NYSE:ASC]. He is a graduate of Bradley University. Mr. Belcaster will be relocating to Massachusetts from River Forest, Ill.
John K. Barton has been promoted to senior vice president, Real Estate. He will assume all real estate responsibility for U.S. retail stores and Staples' Contract and Commercial division, including implementing the growth strategy for new retail unit development, site selection, expansions of existing stores, distribution development, property management and administration, real estate research and travel management. Mr. Barton joined Staples in 1990 as director of engineering and was most recently senior vice president, Engineering, Construction and Support Services. He is a graduate of Villanova University. He currently resides with his family in Westborough, Mass.
David Irwin has been promoted to director, Real Estate, Staples Western Region. Mr. Irwin will be responsible for new store growth and real estate site selection in that region. Mr. Irwin joined Staples in 1995 as manager, Real Estate for the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain Territory. He is a graduate of Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. He currently resides with his family in Bellevue, Wash.
