WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 1998--Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) announced today that Brian Light will be joining the company as its new Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer effective February 2, 1998.
Mr. Light was formerly associated with Anderson Consulting where he was most recently an Associate in their Los Angeles office. Mr. Light joined Anderson Consulting in 1986.
During his career at Anderson, Mr. Light specialized in the Food & Consumer Packaged Goods area and he led engagements of significant strategic evaluations of information systems operations for a number of Fortune 500 companies. At Staples, he will assume responsibility for all aspects of the company's information systems. He will report to the company's Chief Administrative Officer, John Mahoney.
In announcing the appointment, Mr. Mahoney said, "As Staples has expanded well beyond its original retail roots to mail order and business to business operations in four different countries, our needs for exceptionally strong management have increased. Brian's in depth experience will be a significant addition to our already talented information systems organization."
Staples currently operates 742 office products superstores world wide. This includes 685 stores in more than 150 markets across the U.S. and Canada, as well as 40 stores in the United Kingdom and 17 in Germany. The Company operates a telephone order business, Staples Direct, and also has contract stationer operations called Staples Business Advantage and Staples National Advantage, which serve the needs of large regional and national corporations, respectively.
