Staples Selected as the Strategic Supplier of Office Products for the National Joint Powers Alliance Purchasing Cooperative; NJPA Member Schools and State and Local Governments to Benefit from World's Leading Office Products Company

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 2005--Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS), the world's largest office products company, today announced that the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) has awarded Staples a national office products and classroom supplies contract. NJPA is a member-owned buying cooperative serving public and private schools, state and local governments and non-profit organizations. Staples Contract division, which serves mid-sized and Fortune 1000 companies, will provide office products and classroom supplies to all qualified organizations including more than 8,000 NJPA members nationwide.
