|Staples Names Jonathan Magasanik Vice President of Merchandising for Staples.com|
|WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1999--Staples Inc.
today announced that Jonathan Magasanik has been named vice president
of merchandising for Staples.com, the company's e-commerce division
launched last fall.
In his new position, Magasanik is responsible for directing the strategy and execution of Staples.com's merchandising efforts, including assortment planning, vendor management, pricing, replenishment and on-site advertising.
Magasanik joined Staples in 1996 as a project manager in the company's strategic planning group, and was promoted to director of strategic planning the following year. In 1998, he joined the company's merchandising department as senior product manager of software and computer accessories and was then promoted to director of merchandising for technology consumables. Prior to joining Staples, Magasanik was with The Boston Consulting Group.
"Jonathan's focus will be to continue to build Staples.com into the destination for business on the Web," said Jeff Levitan, senior vice president of Staples.com. "With the addition of Jonathan, we've the senior team in place to truly address the office product and service needs of small- and mid-sized businesses."
Magasanik received a M.B.A. in finance from the Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania in 1993. He also received a B.S. in economics and a B.A. in political science from the same university in 1988. He currently resides in Acton, Mass., with his wife and two children and is a native of Natick, Mass.
Launched in the fall of 1998, Staples.com is Staples' e-commerce business unit that serves the home office and small business customer via the Internet.
