Staples, Inc. Announces the Election of Brenda C. Barnes and Richard J. Currie to its Board of Directors
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Jun 11, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) announced today that its shareholders voted in favor of the election of two new board members. Brenda C. Barnes and Richard J. Currie were elected to Staples Board of Directors at the company's annual shareholder meeting held earlier in the day.

"Both Brenda Barnes and Dick Currie add a tremendous wealth of experience to the Staples leadership team," said Ron Sargent, Staples President and Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Barnes is a former President and CEO of Pepsi-Cola North America. She serves on the boards of Avon, Lucas Arts & Digital, The New York Times, Pepsi Americas and Sears, Roebuck & Co.

Mr. Currie is Chairman as well as a Director of Bell Canada Enterprises, and also serves on the board of CAE, Inc. He was President and a Director of George Weston Limited, a food processor and retailer, since 1996. Mr. Currie spent 25 years of his career at Loblaw Companies Limited, the premier Canadian food retailing chain.
