Staples Launches Packaging and Shipping Services; First Office Supplies Superstore to Offer This Convenience
    Business/Technology Editors

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 1999--In response to the growing needs of its small business and home office customers, Staples today announced the rollout of packaging and shipping services, currently available in all 15 Phoenix-area superstores. The Staples Ship Center is the latest way Staples is taking the cost and hassle out of running a small business.

Staples' Ship Centers, located in the stores' Copy Centers, will ship most any item via ground and air carriers. The service offers customers a choice of next-day air, two-day air or ground transportation of documents and parcels delivered to any location around the world. In addition, Ship Centers will offer a host of packaging services, including boxes, taping, bubble wrap, "popcorn" packing, labeling and marking of all shipped parcels. Staples will send prepackaged items or pack the item for the customer.

"Our customers tell us that packaging and shipping requires time that is taken away from more critical aspects of their work day," said Jim Peters, Staples' president of U.S. Stores. "Customers can now simply hand over their package to a Staples associate and get back to managing their business."

Staples' Ship Centers are currently operating in all 15 Phoenix-area stores. Plans call for Ship Centers to open in metro-Atlanta stores this August with a nationwide rollout thereafter.

The link between Staples' Ship Center capabilities and the Copy Center services will also allow small business customers the opportunity to have documents copied, collated, packaged, and shipped, all at one location.
