Staples Foundation for Learning Announces New Grant Recipients; Funds Will Improve Learning Opportunities for Youth Across the Country

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 2003--Staples Foundation for Learning, a private foundation created by Staples, Inc., (Nasdaq: SPLS) today announced it is awarding grants to 23 non-profit organizations. Grants through the Foundation are awarded four times per year to organizations that support programs that provide job training or educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth.

"From after-school drama programs to increasing literacy skills for children with developmental disabilities, this quarter's grants support initiatives that will positively impact the lives of disadvantaged youth across the country," said Ron Sargent, president of Staples Foundation for Learning and president and CEO of Staples, Inc.
