Staples Cleared for Landing At Boston's Logan Airport

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 1999--Staples Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) began construction this week on a new store in Boston's Logan International Airport scheduled to open mid-January. This store follows the initial success of Staples' first airport store which opened in September at the Philadelphia International Airport.

"Business travelers through Philadelphia's airport have shown great interest in our new airport store concept and have affirmed to us that Staples' products and services sell well in an airport environment," said Jim Peters, Staples president of U.S. stores. "We are very pleased with our store's initial performance and look forward to providing more business convenience for travelers flying in and out of Boston," said Peters.

The Logan Airport Staples store is located in Terminal C near the gates for both United Airlines and Delta Airlines. The store is situated adjacent to Brookstone and The Sunglass Hut.

"Massport welcomes Staples to Logan Airport's fast growing retail concept which has received great reviews since the program began back in December 1997," said Executive Director and CEO Virginia Buckingham. "Having another nationally known business like Staples as part of Logan's retail program is a major plus as it enhances customer services by providing the traveling public with a hassle-free way to shop at an airport."

The 1,400 square foot airport store will carry a varied selection of merchandise suited to the needs of the business traveler including small pack sizes of paper and file folders, organizers, presentation materials, general office supplies, travel supplies, luggage and small electronics such as hand held organizers and calculators. Customers will also be able to buy build-to-order computers.

Self-service copying, faxing and packaging and shipping services will also be offered. For customers who want to order supplies and have them delivered to their final travel destination, home or office, a kiosk and a specially-marked telephone linked to Staples catalog operators will be available for those purchases.

"The airport store is the latest way Staples is providing customers with hassle-free shopping to help them keep up with their business while on the road, especially for last-minute supplies or services they need prior to reaching their final destination," said Peters.
