Staples National Teen Survey Reveals That More Than 80 Percent of Students Strive to be Organized; Innovative Back-to-School Products Blend the Hottest New Colors and Styles to Make Organizing Easy

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 2006--Parents, teachers, experts and teens overwhelmingly agree that organization is the key to a successful school year. This year, Staples' (NASDAQ: SPLS) back-to-school products infuse style and organization in products ranging from planners to locker organizers to an assortment of multimedia must haves. Featuring the latest fashions and styles and making organizing a snap, Staples' products put the fun in functional this season.

"Organization is a key cornerstone of academic success, and while students understand this, it's not always one of their top priorities," said Donna Goldberg, a nationally recognized organizational expert and author of The Organized Student. "Staples' vibrant new line of stylish, innovative back-to-school products makes it easy for students to take organization to the next level and also have fun in the process."

Staples' "Geared 4 School" teen survey - a national survey of more than 1,000 students ages 12 to 17 conducted in June 2006 by Staples and Synovate Inc. - provides a revealing look into what teens think about staying organized and looking cool:

  • Keeping Organized: More than 80 percent of students stated that they strive to be organized. A solid 85 percent, however, admit that their parents and teachers would consider them organized only some of the time, or not at all.

  • Slave to Fashion: Fashion continues to play a large role for today's teens, as 75 percent believe it's important to purchase supplies in the latest colors and styles. In fact, more than one-third noted that color and style are their top two priorities when purchasing school supplies.

Organization and Style Made Easy

From innovative locker storage solutions to stylish notebooks and pens, Staples' new product lines focus on organization, and features vibrant, 'student-approved' patterns and colors, such as fuchsia, coral and teal. Some of the hottest organizational items for 2006 include:
