South Florida Parks ''Score'' with Dwyane Wade and the Staples Dream Park Challenge

Winning Park to Receive $25,000 for Improvements

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 15, 2007--Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) and NBA star Dwyane Wade announced today its launch of the Staples Dream Park Challenge, a park improvement initiative open to 14 parks located near Staples stores across South Florida. Staples is calling on residents to vote for their favorite park at www.StaplesDreamPark.com. Voters automatically will be entered to win one of five autographed jerseys from Wade. Five more lucky winners will meet Dwyane Wade. Web site visitors simply select their park of choice, and with a click on the Staples Easy Button(R), their votes are registered.

"Parks provide a fun environment for kids and their families," said Royce Reed, regional vice president of Staples. "The Staples Dream Park Challenge will make it easier for local residents to beautify their parks. We hope that with an improved basketball court or track, we'll inspire our kids to become leaders in sports like Dwyane Wade of South Florida."

"For many kids, the park is the only sanctuary they know, and sports can be a relief from the challenges they face every day," said Wade. "The more appealing we can make our parks, the more kids will be encouraged to play, exercise and meet new friends. They might even discover a fun sport that motivates them to be their best on and off the field."

The park with the most votes will receive $25,000 for improvements, while the remaining 13 parks will receive $2,500 each for their participation. The winning park will be announced in April. More details about the ground-breaking ceremony hosted by Dwyane Wade and Staples will be provided at a later date. Each local resident can vote once per day and pick up "power cards" at Staples stores to obtain 10 extra on-line votes. Log on to www.StaplesDreamPark.com for full details or www.staples.com for store locations. Residents can also enter by mailing a postcard.

The parks were selected based on their overall need, usage, input from city and county park employees and proximity to a Staples store location.

Staples continues to demonstrate its commitment to South Florida by investing in grassroots local community organizations in proximity to its stores. Since its first local store opening, Staples has donated $155,000 to educational non-profit organizations in the area. Each South Florida store location has adopted a local non-profit partner by contributing funds or providing much-needed support, such as office product donations.
