|Staples Donates Over $200,000 to Greater Boston Organizations|
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 2007--Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLS), and Staples Foundation for Learning, Inc., a private foundation created by Staples, today announced charitable donations to several organizations in Greater Boston as part of their ongoing commitment to giving back to local communities. Staples, Inc. will make a $50,000 contribution to Citizens Energy Corporation's Oil Heat Program, which provides discount heating oil to low income and elderly households throughout Massachusetts and the Northeast. Since 2004, Staples has donated a total of $105,000 to Citizens Energy.
Staples Foundation for Learning, Inc. has awarded grants totaling $167,500 to non-profit organizations throughout Greater Boston in support of local youth. Staples invited associates in their Framingham headquarters to nominate their favorite local organizations to receive funding from the foundation. These organizations support youth through a variety of programs focused on environmental stewardship, job skills, mentoring and diversity. Many groups have received previous foundation grants as this is the third year Staples associates have had the opportunity to recommend an organization to receive funding.
